End of Summer Wines

As we roll into a weekend of fun - Labor Day, College Football kickoffs, Pride, Book Festivals, etc, we're highlighting a few wines that will lean you into fall, while still beating the heat of summer.

OVUM BIG SALT ORANGE ROSE

A fabulous combination of all our favorite things from Ovum, this blend rides the wave of rose season straight into fall, and gives us the best of both worlds. Orange wine is simply another name for Skin Contact - letting the white wine juice sit on the grape skins for a period of time to give it that beautiful flavor, aroma and orange hue we are all obsessed with! This wine is a blend of 50% Ovum Big Salt (Riesling and Gewurztraminer) and 50% skin contact Pinot Gris. Expect big flavors of juicy tangerine, tart hibiscus, ginger, and banana. CHATEAU DE TRINQUEVEDEL TAVEL ROSE

From the only AOC in France to exclusively specialize in rose, this Tavel is actually a blend, comprised mostly of Grenache with some splashes of native Rhone varietals. Striking aromas of orange blossom and watermelon, the palette leans heavily into blackberry and blackcurrant flavored juice. All that fresh summer fruit is cut with some crunchy minerality and thyme, resulting in a beautiful, complex and deep rose great for sipping and sharing with friends... and perfect to pair with whatever you might be pulling off the grill. $22.99; available at Krog

BODEGAS MARGON ALBARIN LEON

Anyone else as obsessed with Raul Perez as we are? This new project from the famed wine maker Is the perfect transitional wine for fall and will deliver on all of your expectations. Bright floral and citrus-like Albarino? Check. Weightiness, residual sugar, and drinks like a Chenin Blanc? VINA MAITIA AUPA

We're big fans of Aupa at Hop City and carry it in cans and bottles because we love it so much. Reigning from the hills of Chile, this wine is a rad blend of Pais and Carignan. Expect ripping acidity like a fresh raspberry and leaf off the vine, with wild strawberries, rose parfum and late summer herbs like fennel, mint and thyme.
