Less ABV, Less Problems

While I’m all for a dry or damp January reset (congrats participants!), I am always seeking wines that lower my alcohol intake. It’s possible if you pay attention to the ABV levels on your wine labels. Almost every bottle shares their “Alcohol By Volume” percentage. It doesn’t mean I don’t adore a great red that reaches into the 14% ABV level on a cold winter, pasta-centric night, but I prefer to find delicious bottles in the 10-12% ABV range to keep things more drinkable and less headache-able. Here’s a few suggestions from our amazing Hop City Wine Manager, Liz Miller.

P.S. I have already bought + enjoyed them all and I hope you do too.

Maloof Wax on Wax Soif Blanche ($24.99): A blend of 45% Grenache, 35% Viognier, and 20% Riesling, and a staff favorite that has just returned to our shelves! Ripe pear and golden apple aromatics, delivered in a lean bodied white with tropical island vibes and beaming acidity. Perfect this weekend’s sneak peek at spring! (11.5%)

Scythian Wine Co. Palomino ($37.99): Another fresh arrival, The Scythians Palomino is 95% Palomino blended with 5% other unknown red and white varieties (maybe Colombard and Muscat?). The result is a truly unique tasting experience. Medium salmon-pink in color, this wine is fresh and inviting on the nose, with nutty tones complementing cantaloupe, peach, green herbs, and white pepper. (11%)

Furlani Mino Carbo ($21.99): Who’s ready for a fresh, low-abv chillable red this lovely upcoming weekend? Mino Carbo is from Furlani, one of our favorite Italian producers, and made with Marzemino local grapes. Crushable and the perfect pairing for your al fresco Sunday lunch. (11.5%)

C. Cassis Black Currant Spritz ($5.99): We’ve loved this sparkling blackcurrant cocktail ever since we brought it in! It’s made with only real ingredients: lightly fermented Hudson Valley blackcurrants, with vibrant botanicals, citrus peel, crisp seltzer, and a touch of wild honey. (5.4%)
