Wines With Benefits

Jul 12, 2024

Liz Miller, West End Wine Manager

DID YOU KNOW?

We are now hosting wine tastings at our West End location every other Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. $12 gets you three pours - and a portion of the proceeds from the wines featured in our next tasting (July 17th) will either be going toward charitable organizations or directly to vineyard employees. Let's be kind to our planet, and to one another - and drink good wine while we’re at it!

Delta Sauvignon Blanc

Delta (meaning change) was born out of a desire to create a platform that aids in the fight to protect our planet. Matt and Alexis Iaconis, of Brick & Mortar Wines, partner with organizations dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment - such as cleaning our oceans and reducing CO2 emissions. The couple donate a portion of sales from each bottle sold to the Surfrider Foundation and Cool Effect. Their Sauvignon Blanc tastes of fleshy passion fruit, honeydew melon, yellow grapefruit, kaffir lime leaf, and honeysuckle flowers.

Latta Wines “Kind Stranger” Rosé

Andrew Latta was inspired to take the name ”Kind Stranger” quite literally, by turning to others around him. He’s seen our national landscape shift a bit recently, and feels it's as important as ever to be a kind stranger in the world. Proceeds from this wine benefit Mary’s Place at a local level in Seattle Washington, and the International Rescue Committee on a broader scale.

"A clean mouthful of fruit with a crisp bright finish”.

The words of Kris Chau (artist, tattoo poker, and conjurer of this label) sum it up pretty well. This bone dry wine is a classically pale provencal style rosé, with bright crispness. Notes of under ripe strawberry, watermelon rind, fresh tarragon leaves, and orange blossom abound.

Stolpman Vineyards “La Cuadrilla”

When Tom Stolpman purchased the land that is now Stolpman Vineyards, he declared that if his dream of owning a vineyard was to come true, it would positively affect everyone involved. He wanted their crew members to learn the lifecycle of the vine and become engaged and passionate about their work. Vineyard manager, Ruben Solorzano started a training program in which he gave one “cuadra” (a small vineyard block) to his team, so they would take responsibility for their land. Each crew member became a farmer rather than just a worker, and the profits for “La Cuadrilla” have been returned to the crew members, in the form of both a year-end bonus as well as weekly bonuses on each paycheck. The big year-end bonus allows the crew members a chance to add to their savings and overall cushion, while the weekly bonus aims to increase the quality of everyday life for “La Cuadrilla” and their families. Creative director Kari Crist designs a new black and white image for each vintage’s release, that relates to the “Cuadrilla” members. Soft plum, juicy cherry, and ripe berry coulis evolve into subtle acidity married with loamy, silty tannin.
