Lagniappe (pronounced lan-yap) is a Cajun-French word that means "a little something extra". It's an all encompassing noun used throughout the bayous and deltas of Louisiana that can relate to a small gift, a kind gesture to a stranger, an unexpected extra heap of jambalaya, etc. It's also a great word to describe the nuanced goodness of one of our favorite craft producers, Parish Brewing.
Parish Brewing Company is located in the beating heart of Cajun country, in the small city of Broussard in Lafayette Parish. New Orleans can lay claim to great music, food, parades and culture, but if you're looking to experience all of the above in authentic Cajun fashion, start in Lafayette Parish and continue west all the way to the Texas border. The food alone is well worth the trip, but mix in the joie de vivre of the Cajun culture and the amazing craft beer from the folks at Parish Brewing and you've got yourself a heckuva good excuse for a future weekend excursion.
With Mardi Gras being just a few days away, we figured it's a perfect time to call out some of Parish's lineup currently in stock at Hop City. All possess that little bit of lagniappe...exceptional beers with 'a little extra' that helps them stand tall in the crowded craft beer landscape. And they taste extra good while laboriously stirring a batch of roux or enjoying a bowl of gumbo.
