It can be easy to get lost in the world of Pinot Noirs, Cabernets and Chardonnays, as just about every winemaking region has their own expression of these international varieties. And they’re great! However, sometimes the real magic is exploring lesser-known grape varieties, native to their regions. Often, you can get these wines for a steal, too.
You can swing by Krog this weekend and try these wines during our weekend wine tasting! Friday + Saturday, 3-8pm; 1 pour for $5 or the flight of 3 for $12. See ya then!
VK Wines Skrlet - $19.99
This wine comes to us from Moslavina, a region within continental Croatia. The grape is Skrlet (shkir-let), native to this region. It’s got notes of peaches, white flowers, pineapples, and fresh herbs. The saline edge makes this wine a perfect companion to light seafood fare or chillin’ on the porch during these last few weeks of summer. Chill well, drink often.
Palivou Vineyards Anemos White - $18.99
This blend of Moscofilero and Roditis comes from the Nemea region of Greece, nestled in the Peleponnesian peninsula. Another hot weather banger wine with notes of lemon blossom, apples, pears, and pineapples. Try this with a feta-based dish to be extra-on-brand.
Cantina Sociale Cooperativa Copertino Riserva - $17.99
This wine is an excellent way to experience quality aged wine at an affordable price! 2015 is the current vintage, so this wine has been chillin’ and mellowing out for the last nine years. This is made from the Negroamaro grape, coming from Puglia (alllllllllmost the very tip of the boot heel in Italy). You can expect loads of dried red fruit, black plums, dried herbs, and leather. This is my favourite wine to pair with burgers!
