Alright y’all…
So I wanted to write a newsletter about how I think that wine is punk, then introduce you to some cool producers that use DIY practices in their winemaking. However, my mind is boggled and burnt out this week, so I’ll need to save that newsletter idea for a time that I can give more from my heart and soul. Luckily, most of you are headed straight into a three day weekend and will most certainly be looking for wines to bring to your Memorial Day BBQs - well I’ve got just the bottles to cover your chillin’ and grillin’ needs.
Botanica Wines ‘FLOWERGIRL’ Albariño $26.99
If I had to choose one wine to drink all summer long, it’d probably be a white Txakolina or Albariño. Both styles tend to feel like drinking sunshine from a bottle with bright acidity and a crisp, thirst-quenching finish. The vibrant ‘Flower Girl’ range from South Africa’s Botanica Wines celebrates creativity, experimentation, and a departure from tradition. Crafted from organically grown grapes from Botanica’s home vineyards on Protea Heights Farm, these wines are all about less intervention, less convention, and maximum deliciousness. Pair poolside with oysters, shrimp, or whole grilled fish.
Thibaud Boudignon Rosé de Loire $24.99
If you haven’t heard yet, rosé season is in full effect, and this biodynamically farmed rosé of Cabernet Franc and Grolleau from the Loire is fresh, bright, and insanely drinkable. It tastes like one of those fancy French marshmallows (guimauve) with fresh Summer strawberries layered throughout. This wine is highly food friendly, and made by one of the most exciting figures in wine today.
Schödl ‘Sankt Sankt Sankt’ Laurent $29.99
This organic, unfined, and unfiltered Austrian Sankt Laurent is meaty and juicy with a vibrating and wild soul. Made by the Schödl siblings Viktoria, Mathias, and Leonhard, who took over a family estate, converted it to biodynamics, changed the style completely, and are now one of very few producers rewriting the story of the Weinviertel with world class wines. This wine screams BBQ to me, and will make for a fantastic pairing with grilled meats.

Exciting News! The newly released current vintage of this esteemed producer's famed white reserva has arrived!
A fresh and complex nose of floral notes, pear, and stone fruits. The results of bottle aging are felt on the palate: wet rocks, white flowers, and earthy notes abound, and nuanced, savory mushroom flavors dance along with yellow pears and dried apples.
